Emotional
Positive
A positive tone communicates approval, encouragement, gratitude, or shared excitement. It tends to lift the recipient and reinforces connection. Positive doesn't have to mean cheerful — a quiet 'thank you, that meant a lot' is just as positive as a string of celebratory emojis.
Examples
- "Loved seeing you today — let's do it again soon."
- "You handled that situation so well. Proud of you."
- "Great news! I just got the promotion 🎉"
How to detect it
- Words of affirmation: 'thanks', 'love', 'proud', 'great', 'wonderful'.
- Forward-looking phrases: 'looking forward to', 'can't wait', 'excited for'.
- Punctuation that signals warmth — exclamation points, smile or heart emojis, kind sign-offs.
How to respond
- Match the warmth without overdoing it. A short reciprocal note ('right back at you') beats a generic 'thanks!'
- Acknowledge the specific thing they're being positive about — it shows you actually read what they wrote.
- If you can't match the energy in the moment, a brief 'this made my day' is enough.
